I first heard of Maquillage Professionel 6 years ago when it was still a new makeup school. Back then, the students would have their classes at the back room of the Make Up For Ever store in Bonifacio High Street as the store would go about their daily duties. Fast forward, the school has offered more courses and moved to a bigger location at Burgos Circle.
Graduates of this school have also gone a long way from the day they first stepped in and have made their names in the fashion and wedding industry.
Part of their new curriculum are two courses on airbrush makeup. It was also that same year that I discovered about airbrush makeup. Back in 2007, it was still quite new in the Philippines offered only by very few pro makeup artists that had to be trained abroad. Now, there are special courses in airbrush makeup that can be offered here in the Philippines. No need to travel abroad and have the hassle of applying for visa and all (i.e. use the saved money on that to buy more makeup!)
Airbrush makeup is something that's becoming more in demand here in the Philippines. Brides request for it as it gives the look of second skin while covering all imperfections.
In the fashion and art world, it's more hygienic and faster to use airbrush makeup in doing makeup for fashion shows since there's no need to clean brushes or sponges. In doing body makeup, artistic makeup, and bodypainting, airbrush gives a faster and more even look to the makeup. With stencils (or airbrushing in freehand), it's also a lot easier to do.
There are two courses being offered currently in airbrush makeup. MP Airbrush Basic introduces the foundations of airbrush makeup. This 3-day course is for those who want to get started with this new trend, or learn how to operate and maximize their newly-purchased airbrush kit. For those who have already studied basic airbrush either from MP or from another school, they can upgrade their airbrush skills with the more intensive MP Airbrush Pro, a 10-day course and this is where bodypainting, special effects, and more uses for airbrush makeup come in. At the end of each course, each student is given a certificate and the opportunity to further practice their skills by applying for an internship. As they say, although lectures, demos and classroom practice are in every makeup course, we get better as we continuously practice our skill.
The classrooms are very conducive to learning with a lot of space and light source. The light could even be adjusted for daylight setting, white light, and sometimes it can even be dimmed to simulate makeup done at backstage for theater.
