Sharing the SDE video of my client a few months back, one of the coolest I've ever worked with. What made this day also fun was I was working with my teammates, iSnap Creatives and Wonderful Occasions.

Hey all! With work downtime now as everyone's on holiday, I thought, since I haven't been doing this for quite a while - why not a video tutorial? So I took a break from playing Plants Versus Zombies (my game addiction) and made a tutorial.
So I thought, while staring at my makeup case, I want to do not one look but two, but put it in one video. So here goes... I did a simple day-to-night look for girls who would want to create a simple look that they could use during the day then how to upgrade it to party or date makeup when the clock strikes 6.
As I was making this video, the sun was about to set so I had to make a few light adjustments using the editing software. It's pretty primitive but you get the idea.
The night look need not be red lips. I just wanted to use my trademark lip here and the red here goes well with plum. Why plum? I wanted something different, since I've been using safe colors lately. Also, plum or purple makes green eyes pop, a trick I learned from a model I did makeup on. It really works. However, if we're all brown-eyed, the plum could be a refreshing change from the usual flat black-brown smokey eye.
I did break the rules here again, but I still made it wearable. In the video my baby hair is all over the place. I was just at home the whole day so my hair was perpetually in its messy ponytail without any hair products to hold my hair flat. I'm in a relaxed, lazy, lazy mood.
For blush, I opted to use MSF (used here: MSF in Blonde). I didn't want much of a colored cheek since the eyes and lips are already strong. I just looked for a kiss of color and glow on the face so it doesn't look too pale. I haven't been wearing blush much since my skin color slightly changed due to my recent beach trip. Bronzer would look out-of-place here, so I just used a slight tint with glow, hence I grabbed the MSF from my kit.
I did skip on liquid foundation too and opted for powder instead, since I'm using this for demo purposes anyway. Liquid set with powder would produce a different effect, probably something that would last longer.
Omigod, this is super-duper delayed. Oooopsie... but since I was so swamped with lots of stuff, I just got to posting this today, while everything's all fresh. Anyhow, this was my shoot last year, my second-to-the-last shoot in fact, with my muse, Rachel.
This is the behind-the-scenes documentation I took while we were shooting and we asked also Rachel's assistant to hold the camera while I was being filmed doing the makeup. This was my no-sleep day, yet it was still a lot of fun :)
While stocking up the store two weeks ago, a box of new products arrived. When I saw it, I got all excited as I found out that it was the much-awaited Studio Sculpt foundation, which arrived Manila's MAC counters a few weeks ago. It was already out in the US early this year. I got a sneak peek of it during the MAC workshop I attended last February and it seemed like a promising product. After trying it in the store on our clients and also on myself, I'd like to share with you my thoughts on it.
First of all, here's the outer appearance:
It comes in a tube-type plastic container (yay for Back-to-MAC), so it's lighter to carry and product is easily dispensed. It's easier to finish all the products since you could squeeze the tube to get the products out so there's less product wasting. The container is tall and slim, so I suggest storing these horizontaly.
For product swatching, here's my comparison of Studio Sculpt with Studio Fix and Mineralize Satinfinish liquid foundations:
I used NC15 here so you could really see the effect on my (originally) NC35 skin. On the left is Studiofix, center is Mineralize, and right is Studiosculpt. Studiofix is matte as compared to Mineralize, which had a glow. If you look closely when you swatch your own Mineralize foundations, you would see that it has a glow. Studiosculpt, on the right, is an in-between of Studiofix and Mineralize - it's not too glowy, but not too dry either. In fact, when I blended the foundation in, it mimics the texture of my skin, sort of molding to my skin. This is in fact, the makeup foundation recommended for high definition and TV makeup. I like how it didn't look too dry or too sheer. It gave the illusion of creamy skin.
Here, I used NC35, which is my skin color. I couldn't tell now the difference. My hand, actually looked "photo-edited".
It actually feels comfortable on the skin. If you're quite oily, I suggest applying little amount first, gradually building up the color. MAC recommends to use brush 191 (the square-type foundation brush) to apply this, but fingers and sponge would just do fine. As this is a creamy-type foundation (but not too heavy), it is best to set it with powder, either Studio Fix, Select Sheer, or the recommended loose transparent powder from the Prep + Prime line of MAC.
The concealer really is something, and the MAC guest artists did a test run of it at the tech rehearsals of Spring Awakening just today, and we could really attest to its staying power.
On the other hand, you can also watch this video I made of Mikee describing the Studio Sculpt line. I sort of ambushed Mikee on a weekday at the counter. I'm glad that the MAC Makati counter accomodated this interview despite a rather busy counter day. Thanks guys!
A little correction is that the concealer should be set with Mineralize Skinfinish powder with a 187 brush. :)
MAC Studio Sculpt foundation retails for Php 1,900 while the concealer is being sold for Php 950.
Hey there! I guess by now you've made your way to my renamed site, as I have announced the name change ages ago.
I'm still alive and kicking and still in the process of blogging. I woke up today feeling really groggy and heavy, like I turned to lead overnight. Anyway, I did the necessary adjustments in my blog so it still stays the same.
As I've said I'll be adding more features, here's one: Behind-the-Scenes footage of my recent shoot with once again, Victor. Here's Victor and me after the shoot. I stayed throughout all the layouts and helped him remove his makeup since the layers were quite heavy.
The shoot started at around 3 pm and we finished at around 7 PM. It sure was a lot of fun with such a fantastic group of people. The clothes were uttmost fabulous. Again, Dennis's famous white hoodie makes a comeback. After that, since Apy and Dennis had work to do, Andy, Victor, and I had dinner and coffee at Greenbelt, just to detox and talk.
This is really what goes behind-the-scenes at work... it sure can be fun!
After my shoot yesterday, I visited the store and I went home. While on the ride home, I was formulating another tutorial. I do have my lists pending and I'm working on them trying to make them as simple as possible so it's user-friendly. One of my favorite and quick evening (and sometimes daytime) looks is the clean eye and dramatic lip, which transcends time. It's also one look that takes less time to do. :)
Since I did this video at night, I had to make use of available light, which wasn't much so I got my old reading lamp, which was white light and made it into a vanity light so I could see better and test with different angles. I started editing this at around 9 PM and I fell asleep while editing so I had to continue editing this early this morning. And here's the thing, Windows Movie Maker lost the files I imported so I had to re-import the video files from the memory card and re-do the entire video. Argh!
Anyway, here are additional tips for this look:
1. I used mineral powder foundation misted with some MAC Fix+. I got this idea from Lyn at MAC, and said it's better for those with oily skin since the makeup doesn't clump much. Not to mention Fix+ is really affordable at Php850. I'm still not done using my bottle. This product is best applied using a flat foundation brush like the MAC 190 but the stippling brush could work too. 2. The cat's eye shape could make wide-set eyes look farther apart so what I did was add a bit of medium brown shadow at the inner corner of the eye and blended this well outwards with the contour. 3. Gel eyeliner works best with this look. Pen liquid liner like MAC Penultimate could work too. another trick I could share is use pencil liner first and then once the shape is okay and symmetrical, color in with liquid or gel liner. 4. The look is good with defined brows. Make sure brows are groomed, defined, and if you must, brushed with eyebrow gel to keep stray hairs in place. 5. For foolproof red lips: Line lips with red lipliner and fill in. Apply one coat of red lipstick and blot. Apply second coat with red lipstick and blot. Use lipliner to define the shape and make lips symmetrical and even. For dark and bright lipstick colors, lipbrush works best here. To clean up lips, use a cotton bud to wipe stray strokes from outwards to inwards. :)
Because I got energized to do a makeup video tutorial, here's one
I've been getting requests to do quick makeup demos for girls on the go who would like to look a tad better than just rolling out of bed, hitting the shower, then jump into your outfit and go. I did the makeup all in one take. I think some could do this in a few minutes lesser time, I just had to take longer with my brows because they need extra definition being naturally thin.
For tinted moisturizer, I'll share a DIY recipe found in Sandy Gold's tutorials:
With the Holiday Season coming back, warmer, spicier, and more dramatic shades looking really hot this season, I went for a dark, warm smoky eye with a spice by adding a metallic texture in this new tutorial.
And like any makeup tutorial I have, you guys know how much I stress about blending! Blending makes the colors seamless and the effect very pro. :)
